CULTURE:

DEIB at Oomph

Our team members encompass a diverse representation of religious & racial backgrounds, ages, gender identities, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. Our diversity has varied over the years as team members join or move on, but we remain committed to working toward a diverse and supportive workplace.

Oomph’s DEIB Commitment Statement

Our DEIB Advisory Board

The Oomph DEIB Advisory Board, established in 2019, includes passionate team members dedicated to fostering a workplace where everyone feels a true sense of belonging. Together, we bring new perspectives, drive cultural change, and develop best practices that further our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

A wider diversity of personal backgrounds will create more effective solutions and a higher degree of inclusivity, which in turn, means that your product will resonate with more customers. Trust can only be earned, and we earn it by putting in the work to include multiple perspectives in each solution we architect.

Our Recent Work

United Way Equity Challenge

In June 2024, Oomph proudly participated in United Way of Rhode Island’s 2024 Equity Challenge, a transformative initiative to deepen our understanding of equity and foster meaningful conversations within our team. Through this challenge, we sought to broaden our perspectives, embrace new learning experiences, and actively contribute to our ongoing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) efforts.

Our commitment to these values was recognized by the United Way of Rhode Island, which honored Oomph with the title of “Organizational Equity Champion” to acknowledge our strong participation and dedication to advancing equity in our workplace. This recognition reflects our passion for creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.

Starting in May 2022, DesignXRI’s first cohort of EQUITYxDESIGN participants met. The group included 14 design practitioners from across the state and representing multiple design disciplines. We quickly talked openly and honestly about the sometimes difficult topics surrounding equity and inclusion.

Part of the program was to produce a project. For some, it was an internal company initiative to improve hiring or company culture. For others, it was a new client offering to assist others on their DEIB journey. For our Director of Design and UX, J. Hogue, it was a new online tool that educated others about potentially harmful and retraumatizing language. Read more about this project and the DEI Language Highlighter in our article,. “Equity by Design with a new Inclusive Language Tool.”

During the height of the pandemic, Oomph was honored by PBN (Providence Business News) as one of the Best Places to Work for 2020. Anonymous employee reviews provided insight into what makes Oomph a standout employer.

The PBN’s Best Places to Work Awards program, in partnership with Best Companies Group, aims to recognize the finest employers in Rhode Island. The initiative underscores the significant impact of exceptional workplaces on the local economy, workforce, and business landscape.
